SI (Soroptimist International)

Soroptimist International (SI), is a voluntary non-governmental organization founded in 1921 to transform the lives of women. The headquarters is located in Cambridge, UK. The term “Soroptimist” is derived from the Latin words soror (sister) & optima (good will), meaning sisters aiming at the best for women.

The Soroptimist International network with over 75.000 members& 3000 clubs in 133 countries & territories work to empower women & girls and provide them sustainable opportunities at a local, national & international basis.

Soroptimist International is active in the United Nations centers worldwide. SI has consultative status at the UN Economic & Social Council & has permanent representatives in the major UN centers.

Soroptimists inspire and engage in activities which transform the lives of women & girls by creating service-based opportunities. The last annual Global Soroptimist Impact Report states that a total of 3.727 projects have been carried out & 110.000 women were reached.
